You have to be really close and follow along with it to not lose the range. The downfall though is that the range is surprisingly really bad between the remote and the car. The remote takes 2 batteries but the car is actually rechargeable which is a huge win and makes this car one of the bigger selling points at its price. It also works inside on the carpet and floor. The tires are squishy and almost tubes so you can go over smaller gravel and through the grass pretty easily. For it being a pretty basic RC car it goes pretty fast. The whole car is made of pretty sturdy plastic but it’s definitely breakable with a fast enough hit against something hard. He can press the buttons and make the car go in a direction but he’s not really in control. I got this for a 2 1/2 year old who is obsessed with monster trucks and I really had to be the one to operate it while he chased it around the house and the yard. The title says this monster truck RC car is for 4+ years old and I think that’s accurate. Since this truck is made of plastic I’m not very confident that it will stay in prime condition for very long, but for its current price it is a nice basic RC vehicle for younger kids, especially those who like monster trucks. My 5 year old has no trouble controlling this RC truck but he sometimes crashes it into things for fun. The remote needs batteries but those last a long time. We have some other RC toys that are eating up the batteries like crazy, so I really appreciate that this one is rechargeable. It is not the best at making turns especially the tighter ones. The truck goes easily on carpets, grass, and small rocks and gravel. He plays with it at home as well as in the backyard. I was right and this truck is currently his favorite toy vehicle to play with. My 5 year old son is obsessed with Hot Wheels Monster Trucks and he also really likes RC vehicles, so I knew this Hot Wheels RC Monster Truck will be a big hit with him. Maybe best for a narrow younger age range.
